Spitzer met with prostitute 'Kristen' WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Federal prosecutors Monday unsealed a 47-page affidavit that details a nearly 2½-hour rendezvous that took place in a Washington hotel room last month between New York's Gov. Eliot Spitzer and a prostitute.The affidavit does not mention Spitzer by name, but a source with knowledge of the case said the subject identified as Client 9 is the governor.The prostitute, identified only as "Kristen" worked for the Emperors Club, which charged between $1,000 and $5,500 an hour and operated in New York; Los Angeles, California; Miami, Florida; London, England; and Paris, France, according to court papers.

Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family and the public Monday after The New York Times reported on its website that the governor had ties to a prostitution ring. "For the past nine years, eight years as attorney general, and one as governor, I have tried to uphold a vision of progressive politics that would rebuild New York and create opportunity for all. We sought to bring real change to New York and that will continue," he said."Today I want to briefly address a private matter. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my, or any, sense of right and wrong," he said. "I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, whom I promised better.

International Prostitution Ring Shut Down (MSNBC) -- NEW YORK - Key members of an international prostitution and money laundering ring, known as the Emperors Club VIP, were arrested Thursday by IRS and FBI agents, prosecutors told WNBC.com. Mark Brener, Cecil Suwal, Temeka Rachelle Lewis and Tanya Hollander have been charged with violating federal prostitution statutes. Brener and Suwal are also charged with laundering more than $1 million of the proceeds from the illegal operation, U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said. According to court documents obtained by WNBC.com, the Emperors Club was used to connect wealthy male clients with more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, London and Paris.

Lt. governor could replace Spitzer in NY(Associated Press) -- FLess than two years after he reluctantly ran for lieutenant governor, David Paterson is suddenly in line to be only the third black governor since Reconstruction, and the first in New York. "He's the next governor and probably quite soon," said Maurice Carroll, director of Quinnipiac University's Polling Institute and a longtime New York political reporter. Attention turned to Paterson immediately after word surfaced Monday that Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been linked to a high-priced prostitution ring.
